My dad had a window screen repair tool hanging above his workbench

I will always know the fall of a thousand summer stars and
the faint drone of tractor-trailer tires from the interstate, a mile away.
But it was the crickets and other night bug sounds that always
made me feel safe and continuous -- like you would never go.
Sometimes I'll tap on a metal window screen when I see one
just because that sound reminds me of you.
