Mostly, a good life is a choice and not a happenstance
It is wonderful to meet many of the patients I have at the hospital. Last night was a very good night. I've learned many good things about people's lives, about hardship and even more about my own life. If I sat home in the evenings simply taking care myself, then I wouldn't really be taking care of myself very well at all. Sure, the grass in the yard gets a little deeper and the carpet gets a little more covered with dog and cat hair, but it can wait. I'm so lucky to have this life.
If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. ~ From: Mediation XVII, John Donne, 1624
