My dad used a Lufkin folding ruler similar to this one. As a kid, it was more of a play thing than it was a tool for measuring. In one of my toolboxes, I still have the wooden ruler, but it sits quietly, mostly as a reminder of one of the greatest gifts my father ever gave me and not really as a testament to what I got from him -- if that makes any sense. His willingness to spend time in the workshop with me, to teach and love me is something precious that I will always have.
It is easy to measure a number things we receive but the ones we give are the most valuable, durable and always the most immeasurable. I guess life will always bring us loss of people, items and stuff, but what we give is never lost.
