Today would have been Marie's (a.k.a. M-O-M's) 57th birthday.
Before cancer (BC)
When the kids were little, she liked a few Def Leppard songs, mainly because one of the band members had nice eyes but I don't recall which one it was - and she probably wouldn't have either. It is why she liked Hines Ward from the Pittsburgh Steelers, not specifically because Marie understood or even knew much about the Steelers or NFL football, but it was purely about his eyes.
During Cancer (DC)
Marie always remained hopeful - at least outwardly so. I seldom heard a complaint about pain, surgeries, or even chemotherapy and its related emetic anomalies. Again, I don't she would have known who wrote or sung this song but that wasn't important to her - it WAS that everything was going to be alright.
After Cancer (AC)
The best part is she cannot be hurt by this anymore and in a grand way she beat the disease. I have a few friends who understand this, having lost a loved one in a similar way. I remember when we first fell in love, she said I had the kindest small eyes she had ever known and I feel fortunate that, in spite of my many flaws she saw me this way and valued small things.
So Happy Birthday my Kitzy-woman! I miss you.
