If I did your laundry

I wouldn't mix your red shirt
with pairs of your white socks
and with almost any stain
I am good at Shouting Out.
I'd fold everything carefully
(except for undies and socks
because they don't fold well)
and delicately hang each item
that deserved a plastic hanger.
I'm not very quick with an iron
but I'd give it my level best
That's what I would do.

One summer afternoon when I was about five years old, my dad let me sit on his lap and "drive" the car up the hill on Shepherd Terrace. I will never forget how wonderful it was and for that brief instant, how I felt completely under power and magically in control. I wonder if he ever realized that even after fifty years, I still would consider it one of the best days of my life.
